South Africa and Germany discussed the need for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine war in talks on Tuesday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said.

“We also discussed the conflict in Ukraine and the need for the international community to encourage dialogue and negotiation towards a ceasefire and a peaceful negotiation or resolution,” Ramaphosa told a news conference after talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“War Could Lead to Food Shortages”

In related news, Poland’s president said on Tuesday that if the war in Ukraine causes food shortages in North Africa, this will in turn lead to mass migration to Europe.

“If it turns out that there is hunger in North Africa… both Spain and the whole of southern Europe will have a huge migration problem,” Andrzej Duda told a panel in Davos. “Today we should focus on Ukraine being able to export its grain.”
